Traditional retinol has to be converted through multiple steps inside the skin before it becomes active — and the byproducts of that conversion are a major cause of the redness and flaking. Hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR) skips most of that. It binds directly to the same receptors retinol eventually reaches, so the skin gets the renewal signal without paying the same tolerability cost. Most people who couldn't use retinol can use HPR. That said: any retinoid asks something of your skin. We recommend starting two to three nights a week.
No topical product rebuilds the collagen network in the deeper layers of your skin — anyone telling you otherwise is selling you a story. What this formula does: the HPR signals skin cells in a way that supports the skin's own renewal processes over time, and the hydrolyzed collagen on the surface holds water and improves immediate feel. Those are real, defensible benefits. The phrase "collagen support" gets stretched in this category. We try to be honest about where it actually applies.

Anything connected to the HPR (texture, fine lines, overall renewal) is a multi-week to multi-month process; the skin's natural cell turnover cycle is roughly 4–6 weeks at this stage of life, and that's the timeline a retinoid is working with. Consistency matters more than concentration. Six weeks of regular use will tell you more than three months of occasional use.
Around your eyes - yes, but not directly on the eye lid. The skin around the orbital bone benefits from gentle retinoid exposure, and HPR is well-tolerated there for most people. Avoid the lash line and the inner corners. If you have sensitive eyes or wear contacts, introduce it slowly to that area or skip it entirely.
Yes, with sequencing in mind. Vitamin C works best in the morning; this cream works best at night. If you use a serum (like our Vitamin C & Mushroom Serum or our Dark Spot Serum), apply the serum first, let it absorb for a minute, then layer this cream over it. Avoid using this on the same night as exfoliating acids — give your skin one or the other, not both at once.
Retinoids of any kind — including newer-generation ones like HPR — are typically avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding out of caution, since the safety data for topical use during those periods is limited. We recommend consulting your healthcare provider, and in the meantime, our Vitamin C & Mushroom Serum and Skin Firming Cream are good options to continue using.
No. There is no added fragrance in this formula, and no fragrance ingredient appears on the INCI list. Fragrance is a leading cause of contact sensitization in mature skin, and we've made the call to leave it out.
Reishi and chaga are among the most-studied functional mushrooms in skincare for a reason — they're rich in polysaccharides and antioxidants that support skin resilience. The honest part: most "mushroom" products on the market use trace amounts as a label flourish. In this formula, reishi appears fifth on the ingredient list and chaga appears seventh. That's meaningful concentration, not decoration.
